Chalk and Talk: Growth Matters International’s Interactive Sales Leadership Event

Growth Matters International recently launched a series of global Chalk and Talk events, with the first event hosted in London.  It was an engaging and thought-provoking session designed to elevate sales leadership discussion. This event is part of our global expansion efforts, building on successful partnerships with major organisations such as Adobe, Cummins and Investec. The event provided a dynamic space for sales leaders to share insights, refine approaches, and explore new strategies for driving sales excellence.

A Dynamic and Interactive Session

This Chalk and Talk session focused on "The Exponential Sales Leader", a concept exploring the key drivers behind scaling sales leadership effectiveness. Our CEO, Tony Cross, led the discussion, beginning with a reference from Neil Rackham, the pioneer of SPIN Selling:

Without an investment in sales management, no amount of training, no amount of enablement, no amount of consulting will have any sustainable effect on your sales results.  Period.

This set the stage for an insightful dialogue on the role of sales leadership in driving sustainable business results. Attendees discussed key sales leadership principles, each prompting deep reflections on topics such as pipeline management, sales coaching, and other key revenue-generating activities.

Unlocking Growth: The R=SNAP Formula

A highlight of the session was the discussion around the R=SNAP formula—an approach that emphasises four crucial sales levers:

  • Skills and Knowledge: Strengthening expertise for consistent sales performance.
  • Number of Activities: Ensuring the right volume of high-impact actions.
  • Allocation of Effort: Prioritising tasks that generate the greatest returns.
  • Process Alignment: Synchronising sales efforts with buyer journeys.

Tony explained how small, incremental, strategic improvements in these areas could have a multiplicative effect on overall sales results, leading to exponential growth. Participants explored real-world challenges such as misalignment between sales and buying processes, ineffective deal qualification, and the importance of coaching sales managers to build high-performing teams.

Key Takeaways and Actionable Insights

The value of Chalk and Talk lies in the open exchange of insights among experienced sales leaders. Key takeaways from the session included:

  • The importance of prioritising high-value activities that drive revenue growth.
  • How better deal qualification leads to stronger pipelines and higher conversion rates.
  • The need for coaching that develops people rather than just inspecting performance.
  • Aligning sales efforts with customer buying processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • The power of co-creating proposals with clients ensures alignment and reduces friction in the sales cycle.
